Now sew a Color 1 quarter square triangle to the left and right of a
small Color 2/Color 3 half square (on point) as shown at top left. Use
scant 1/4" seams, and press seams towards the Color 1 qsts. Add a
Color1/Color3 pieced quarter square triangle to the top left and top
right of each unit, pressing seams towards the bottom section, or one
seam up and one seam down if you find that to be less bulky. You will
need four units like this for the block's sides...
|
|
|
Sew the four larger Color 2/Color 3 together in a four patch to make
the block's center....
|
|
|
Now lay out all the units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows,
pressing the seams from the top and bottom rows towards the outside,
and the middle row seam towards the center. Join the three rows, and
the block is complete!
...on to Page 3!

Wonder about those "scant
1/4" seams you keep seeing mentioned???
A scant 1/4" seam is sewn just
a couple threads LESS THAN a true 1/4" seam, and this is
done to compensate for the little bit of block width you lose
in each pressed over seam allowance...master that, and cut
accurately, and you'll have properly sized blocks! :o) |
