** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

 Then mark and cut the Color 4  4-1/4" square twice on the diagonal to make four quarter square triangles...

Mark and cut the Color 4  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

 Mark and cut the Colors 2 and 3   2-3/8" x 4-3/4" strips into two 2-3/8" squares of each.  Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

 Cut the Colors 2 and 3   2" x 4" strips into two 2" squares of each...

Sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2" squares together into a four patch for the block's center, using scant 1/4" seams and pressing to the darker side...

 Sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2-3/8" half square triangles together in pairs to make two each of the ones shown at left. (Two have Color 2 to the right and the other two have Color 3 to the right) Press seams towards the darker side...

Sew a Color 1 quarter square triangle to the right of a Color 2/Color 3 half square triangle unit. Press seam towards the QST...
