** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting the Color 1 2-1/2" x 10" strip into
four 2-1/2" squares...
Now stack the Color 1 and Color 2 5-1/4" squares and cut
them on both diagonals t make four quarter square triangles of each.
You will only need two of Color 2...
Use the template provided to cut one Color 2 square for the center of
the block from the Color 2 4" square ( or if you are
feeling frisky, just rotary cut a square about one hair larger than
3-5/16")...
Cut the Color 2 2-1/2" x 9" strip into two 2-1/2"
x 4-1/2" rectangles...
Using a scant 1/4" seam allowances sew two Color 1 quarter square
triangles right sides together to the Color 2 center square as shown
at left. Press seam to darker side...
Sew two more Color 1quarter square triangles right sides together to
two Color 2 quarter square triangles, again using a scant 1/4"
seam. Press to dark side. You are making two of the triangle units
shown at left...
Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2
2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges
aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8"
square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now
sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals,
pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals,
and on the 2-7/8" square line. This will give you four half
squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these
back to measure 2-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
