This makes a 12" block!...and is a venture into contemporary-land that is odd for me...I feel like a brown trout that fell into the Atlantic!...glub...glub...

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1  4-1/2" x 22-1/2"  strip into five 4-1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares...

Next mark and cut the Color 3   5" x 20"  strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Start by placing a Color 3  2-1/2" square right sides together atop the upper left corner of a Color 1 lg. square, with all edges aligned. (I show them slightly off alignment here so you can see I am dealing with two pieces of fabric) On the back of the top square, lightly draw the diagonal and sew ON the marked line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the outer triangle. Repeat this with another Color 3 square on the opposite corner, then twice more with two more Color 3 squares on the two remaining corners...

Use this same method  to sew four more Color 3 small squares to ONE corner of each of the remaining Color 1 large squares...
