** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting the Color 1 2-1/2" x 10"strip into
four 2-1/2 squares...
Now cut the Color 2 2-7/8" x 5-3/4"strip into two
2-7/8" squares...
Next cut the Color 3 2-7/8" x 5-3/4"strip into two
2-7/8" squares...
Then cut the Color 4 2-1/2" x 10"strip into four
2-1/2 squares...
Now cut the Color 5 2-1/2" x 22-1/2" strip into nine
2-1/2" squares, and the Color 5 2-7/8" x 11-1/2"
strip into four 2-7/8" squares...
Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking a
Color 3 and a Color 5 2-7/8" square, right sides together
and all edges aligned. On the back of the top square, lightly mark the
diagonal as shown at left. Now sew a scant 1/4" away from
marked diagonal on each side of it. Now cut apart on the marked
diagonals between the lines of stitching. This will give you two half
squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these
back to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Make two more half squares like
this, then four more in the same way, using Color 2 /Color 5
squares...
Now lay out all the units as shown at left. Using a scant 1/4"
seam allowance, sew five horizontal rows. Alternate pressing direction
by row. Join the rows to complete your block!...on to Page
2!
