** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by sewing two Color 1 and one Color 2 1-1/2" x
7" strips together along the long edges as shown at right, using
a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press seams to the darker side, and
bisect this unit into two 3-1/2" units. Repeat this with the last
two Color 2 strips and one Color 11-1/2" x 7" strip to make
two more 3-1/2" units in that color combo...
Cut the Color 1 and Color 2 4-1/4" x
8-1/2" strips into two 4-1/4" squares of each. Stack and
cut these squares in half once on both diagonals to make eight
quarter square triangles of each... |
Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew pairs of quarter square triangles together
to form larger triangles. Press seams to darker side. Now sew pairs of these larger
triangles together, matching centers exactly, to make quarter squares. Make four units like
this. These should measure 3-1/2"...
Lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows,
pressing the top and bottom row seams to the inside and the center row
seam to the outside. Join the rows to finish up your block! ...on to Page
