** Preparing
the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
First cut two Color 1 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles, and two Color 1 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles... |
Then mark and cut the Color
2 1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares.
Also cut one Color 2 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle... |
Place Color 2 small squares
lined up with, and right sides together against the upper corners of
the Color 1 large rectangle. On the back of the small squares draw a
diagonal line in the directions shown, and sew on these drawn lines.
Cut off the excess seam allowances, and press the remainder towards
the rectangle. Make two units like this... |
Sew the two smaller Color 1
rectangles to each end of the larger Color 2 rectangle, pressing
seams towards the outer rectangles... |
Now piece the block, pressing
seams towards the upper rectangles. Your first American Chain block
is now ready for signing! :o)
