Now sew a Color 2   1-1/2" x 12" strip to a Color 3 strip of the same length, then add another Color 3 strip. After pressing seams towards the darker fabrics, cut this three stripe unit at 1 1/2" intervals, to make eight units. Repeat this same process to make eight Color2/Color3/Color2 units. Sew them together as shown at left to make four Nine Patch units...

Sew two half square units together along the right side. Add a Color 3 square, then add another half square, and add another half square. Make two of these units. They will be the top and bottom rows of the block. Press seam allowances in alternating directions...

Next sew the center row, by joining a 3 stripe unit to a Color 3 square, then another Color 3 square, another 3 stripe unit, and another Color 3 square. Press seam allowances in alternating directions...

Then sew a Nine Patch to a half square. Add a 3 stripe unit, then add another Nine Patch, and lastly add another half square. Make two rows like this, to be rows two and four of the block, again pressing seam allowances in alternating directions...

Finish the block by joining the previously made rows as shown in the diagram at left. Alternate pressing directions with each addition.
