** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by sewing the Color1, 2 and 3  1-1/2" x 14" strips right sides together along the long edges as shown at left, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seams in one direction. Cut this at 3-1/2" intervals to make four pieced units. Each should measure3-1/2" square...

Next stack two Color 4 and one Color 1 and one Color 3  4-1/4" squares, with all edges aligned. (I show them staggered here just so you can see what fabrics I am talking about) Cut once on both diagonals to make quarter square triangles. Sew four of the quarter squares shown at left. These should measure 3-1/2" square...

Now lay out all units as shown at left, with the extra Color 4  3-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom row seams to the outside, and the middle row seam to the center...on to Page 2!
