This makes a 9" block and it's an easy one to make !

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by speed piecing the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 3  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a 1/4" seam above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square line. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2". Now repeat this using a Color 1 and Color 3 set of strips to get four more half squares in that color combination...

Next stack the Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" squares right sides together with all edges aligned. Cut once on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles of each. You only need TWO of each for one block, so save the others for another block, or another project. Sew together  two pairs of triangles using a 1/4" seam, and pressing seam to darker side. Now sew these pieced triangles together to make the center unit for the block. This should measure 3-1/2" ...

Now lay out all the units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows pressing the top and bottom row seams to the center and the middle row seam to the outside. Join the three rows to complete your block! Wasn't that easy one?!
