** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 1  3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strip into two 3-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

Then cut the Color 2  3-7/8" square in half once on the diagonal to make two half square triangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strip strip into two 3-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

Next cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four  4-1/2" squares...

Sew four of each of the quarter square triangle pairs shown at left, using 1/4" seams, and pressing towards the darker side...

Sew these quarter square triangle pairs to the bottom and right of the small Color 2 squares. Again, use a 1/4" seam allowance, and press the seams towards the triangles. Make four units like this...

Sew a Color 1 half square triangle to each of the four pieced corner units, pressing seams towards the half square triangles. Trim these back to measure 4-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
