** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1 3" x 12" strip into four 3" squares...

Now cut the Color 2  3" x 12" strip into four 3" squares...

Then cut the Color 2   5" x 11" strip into four  2-1/2" x 5-1/2" rectangles...

Next speed piece the quarter squares by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  3-3/4" x 15" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 3-3/4" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown as well. Sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the 3-3/4" square lines. Then cut each of these two layer squares across the other diagonal, and lastly on the marked diagonal. This will give you sixteen quarter triangles. Sew them together in pairs to make eight quarter squares. Trim these to measure 3" if needed. Press seam allowances to one side...

Now piece the block. Make rows first, and then join the rows to make the block, being sure to alternate pressing directions...on to Page 2!
