** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  5" x 15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip into five 2-1/2" squares...

Now place the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip right sides together with all edges aligned.

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" squares right sides together in pairs with all edges aligned. On the back of the top squares, lightly mark the diagonals as shown at left with a solid line corner to corner. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals between the lines of stitching. Each pair will give you two half squares. You need 8 half squares in total. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Now lay out all units as shown at left, and using a 1/4" seam sew into the five horizontal rows you see made up. Sew the rows together to finish your block!...on to Page 2!
