** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  5" x 18" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"...

Using the template provided, cut 8 trapezoids from the two Color 2  5" x 14" strips...

Next cut the Color 3  4-7/8" x 19-1/2" strip into four 4-7/8" squares. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight large half square triangles. Cut the Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack those squares and also cut them once on the diagonal to make eight small half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 3  5" x 22-1/2" strip into eighteen 2-1/2" squares...

Using a 1/4" seam allowance now and throughout the block making, sew the two Color 3 and one Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strips together as shown at left. Press seams towards the darker fabric. Cut this apart into four 2-1/2" wide sections. In the same manner sew together the two Color 1 and one Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strips, press to the dark, and then cut that apart into TWO 2-1/2" wide units. Now sew these units together to form two nine patch units...on to Page 2!
