** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 30" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x  32-1/2" strip into thirteen 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color  3  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color  4  5" x 17" strip into four 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. (1/4" seams are also used for the remainder of the block sewing) Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2". Repeat this with a  Color2/Color5 strip set, and again with a Color2/ Color 6  2-7/8" x 23" strip set...

Now using the units we have just made, sew together four of the corner units shown at left...on to Page 2!
