** Preparing
the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting the Color 3
3-1/2" x 14"
strip into four 3-1/2" squares... |
Then cut your Color 1 4-1/4" x 8-1/2"
strip into two 4-1/4" squares and further bisect them on the other diagonal, as
shown, making sure to keep them stacked and aligned perfectly while you make your cuts! |
Do the same with your Color 2
4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip... |
...And your Color 3 4-1/4" x 17"
strip... |
Lastly, cut your Color1 3-1/2" x 14" strip
into four 3-1/2" squares... |
Begin by stacking, right sides together, a Color
1 and a Color 3 quarter triangle. Sew together using a 1/4"
seam. Make EIGHT of
these... |
Then make EIGHT more, using a Color
2 and Color 3 combination. Press all seams towards the darker fabric... |
Now sew one of each color combination together to
make the quarter squares, and you need EIGHT of these. These should
measure 3-1/2"... |
Now stack a Color 1
3-1/2" square atop a Color 2 6-1/2" square, right sides
together. Mark the
diagonal as shown, and sew on the marked line. Trim off excess seam
allowance. Continue to add Color 1 squares to the corners in this
manner. Press seam
allowances towards corner triangles
