** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 21" strip into two 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" rectangles . Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 4  5" x 15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 4  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Now, lay out all strips squares and half squares to form the seven rows shown at left. Sew the rows, using a 1/4" seam throughout. Piece the rows together to finish your Spring Bloomers block! ...on to Page 2!
