** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 3  5-1/8" x 10-1/4" strip into two 5-1/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Now cut the Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 1 and Color 2  7-1/4" squares in half on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles of each. Do the same thing with the Color 1 and Color 3  4-1/4" squares to make four small quarter square triangles of those as well...* Note: If you are going to use a Striped fabric as I have here, you'll need to cut TWO  7-1/4" squares of it and use only the two with stripes in the correct direction!...

Sew Color 1 and Color 3 small quarter square triangles right sides together, using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press to dark side. Add a Color 2 half square triangle. These should measure 3-1/2". Make four units like this.  Sew the four together to make the block's center unit...

Now sew Color 3 half squares to opposing sides of the center unit, and then to the remaining two sides...
Now sew Color 1 and Color 2  quarter square triangles right sides together using the same1/4" seam allowance. Press to darker sides. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
