** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting one Color 1  2-1/2" x 20" into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 1  2-7/8" x 25-7/8" strip into nine 2-7/8"  squares. Stack and cut these again on the diagonal to make eighteen half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 2  2-7/8" x 14-3/8" strip into five 2-7/8"  squares. Stack and cut these again on the diagonal to make ten half square triangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 2  6-7/8" x 13-3/4" strip into two 6-7/8" squares. Stack and cut these again on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...
Then speed piece the half squares by stacking the Colors 1 and 2  2-7/8" x 40-1/4"strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. This will give you twenty-eight half squares. Press these to the darker side. These should measure 2-1/2" ...on to Page 2!
