Fat Quarters should be plenty!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a South Carolina Star! You will need to print out four copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You will also need one 3-3/8" white square for the block's center!

After all your units are paper pieced, place the center white square right sides together against the bottom right edge of one PP unit. (with edges aligned...mine are staggered here just so you can see what am doing!) Mark a point on the 1/4"seam line 1/4" in from the lower left edge of the square, shown here in green. Sew from this point to the edge, back stitching at the beginning to secure that end. Press seam towards PP unit...

Now continue to add your paper pieced units in a clockwise fashion around the center, always pressing seams towards the newly added unit. First sew one on the top right...
Then sew one on the bottom right...

...on to Page 2!
