This makes a 10" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Color 1  5" x 9" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Cut the Color 2  5" x 13" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 22-1/2" strip into nine 2-1/2" squares...

To make one center unit, place a Color 2 square right sides together atop a Color 1 rectangle with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the triangle. Make four of these. They should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"...

Do the same procedure with the Color 2 rectangles and Color 1 squares, sewing squares on both ends of each rectangle. Press seams towards rectangles. Make four of these...

To sew the block's center  circle unit sew a Color 2 square to the left end of a shorter rectangle unit. Stop stitching 1/4" before the end of the square and take one backstitch there to secure the stitching...
