** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 15" strips into six 2-1/2" squares of each...

 

Next mark and cut the Color 3  5" x 13-1/2" strip into six  2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

 

 

Now sew the five horizontal rows as shown at left, using the standard scant 1/4" seam allowances throughout. To make the middle row, you will sew together two sets of Color 1 and Color 2 squares, then join those to the ends of the Color 3 large rectangle. Connect the rows and your Signature Chain block is done! There's lots of room in the center to use as a signature block, if you want. hence, the name! ...
