It's a 12" block!

I Have seen this called "Exquisite Star" and with larger corner triangles, I know of it as "Indian Hatchet"

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting your base squares, either from a single strip 4-1/2" x 40-1/2", or from a 13-1/2" square, as shown here. You need nine 4-1/2" squares...

Place a 2-1/2" calico square aligned atop the top left corner of a base square, right sides together. Mark the diagonal on the BACK of the calico square, and sew them together ON this marked line; Cut 1/4" away from the sewn line and press seam allowance towards base square. Repeat with another calico square on the opposing corner. Make NINE of these units...

Sew them together, first by row, and then sew rows together, alternate pressing directions by row. Boy, WHAT A TOUGH BLOCK!...  lolol  :o) ...on to Page 2!
