** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Stack, mark and cut the two Color 2  7" x 10-1/2" rectangles into twelve 3-1/2" squares...

Mark and cut the Color 1  7" x 13 rectangle into four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Sew pairs of Color 1 and Color 2 squares right sides together using a 1/4" seam. Press to dark side. Make four units like this...

 

To make the pieced rectangles, place a Color 2  square atop a Color 1 rectangle, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the square draw in the diagonal and sew on the drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the darker fabric. Repeat this with another Color 2 square on the other end of the rectangle. Trim these back to be 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" if needed...

 

Now sew a square-pair to a rectangle unit in a 1/4" seam. Press seam to one side. Make four units like this...
