This makes a 16" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 35" strip into twenty-eight  2-1/2" squares

Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares

Cut one Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares

 

Next cut the Color 1  5" x 18" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 2  7-1/2" x 18" strip into twelve 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

 

Now sew the Color 2 and the other Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strips right sides together along one long edge in a 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Cut this apart at 2-1/2" intervals to make eight pieced units. Sew these together to make four Four Patch Units...

 

To make the corner rectangle units, place a Color 3 small square right sides together atop the left end of a Color 1 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Make four of each of the rectangle units shown at left, noting that the sewing direction is opposing in four of them...on to Page 2!
