The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try the Shaded Trail Block! You will need to print out one copy of each template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. A Fat Quarter of each fabric is more than enough.

When you units are paper pieced, join them as shown at left. First sew together the four center units, then add the top and bottom strips, and lastly add the sides, using all 1/4" seams...and there's your block! :o)

This quilt is  four blocks by five, with a pieced border, then 2 narrow borders, and a wider border. Done in blues, greens etc. I think this would make a great  masculine quilt!

Happy Quilting !
