Here's yet another chance to use up some small scraps!

...or..How about doing it as a Two color (plus background) quilt  LIKE THIS!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, cut your Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 1  4-1/2" x 26" strip into four 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Then cut the Calico squares on the diagonal to make triangles. You will need 36 of these triangles for the block...

Next, mark lightly ON THE BACK of the 8-5/8" x 17-1/4" strip a grid that will make eighteen  2-7/8" squares. Cut squares and then cut each one on the diagonal...

Start by sewing together all your Color 1 small triangles to calico triangles, using a 1/4 " seam, pressing seam allowances towards darker fabrics. Make 36 of these half squares...

Then join three of the half square units as shown, again using 1/4" seams. Next make a row with TWO half squares and one Color 1  2 1/2" square, and to the side of that add a Color 1  4-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle...

Then sew a row of FOUR half squares to the bottom of that unit. Make FOUR of these....on to Page 2!
