** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

 

 

Stack the Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" x 14-5/8" strips with all edges aligned and cut into three 4-7/8" squares of each. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make six small half square triangles of each. You only need five of each to make one block, so save the extras for another block or project. Using a 1/4" seam sew these half square triangles together in pairs to make five small half squares. Press seams to dark side. They should measure 4-1/2"...

 

 

Next stack the Color 1 and Color 2  8-7/8" squares with all edges aligned and cut in half once to make two large half square triangles of each. You only need one of each to make one block, so save the extras for another block or project. Using a 1/4" seam sew these half square triangles together to make one large half square. Press to dark side. This should measure 8-1/2"...

 

 

Again using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew one of each of the units shown at left using the smaller half square units...
