This makes a 10" block and is paper pieced!

or if you prefer, here are 12" templates! (4 copies needed!)

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Ruthie's Star Block! You will need to print out two copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. You will also need one 2-1/2" background square.

After your units are paper pieced, lay them out as shown at left with the extra background square in the center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing row seams in alternating directions. Join the three rows and the block is done!

Here on its side is a quilt with five rows of four blocks each, with a pieced border!

Happy Quilting Folks!
