This makes a 12" block!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack these squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack these squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

 Sew the Color 1 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 15" strips right sides together along one long edge, in a 1/4" seam Press seam to the darker side. Mark and cut this unit at 2-1/2" intervals...

 Sew the strip sets we just made into four patches as shown at left. Make three units like this...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2" ...

Now make two units as shown at left for the block's upper left and lower right corners...

..and sew four units as shown at left for the block's sides...
