Now place a Color 3 square right sides together atop a Color 1 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 3 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make two units like that.

In the same way, sew six of the next rectangle units shown at left, noting that the angle of stitching is parallel this time...

Then sew two more with the angle of stitching also parallel but slanting in the opposite direction...

Lastly sew two more just like the first rectangle units, but this time use Color 3 rectangles and Color 1 squares...

1/4" seams will be used from now on.

Now use all those rectangle units we just made, plus the larger Color 3 rectangles to sew two of each of the units shown at left...

Now sew the Color 2  2-1/2" square right sides together and outer edges aligned to the left-bottom of one of the B units. Stitch from the left outer edge to within 1/4" of the inner edge of the square and back stitch 1 stitch to secure. Press seam towards larger unit...on to Page 3!
