** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  2" x 16" strips into eight 2" squares each...

 Now cut the Color 3  2" x 16" strip into eight 2" squares, and the Color 3  4" x 14" strip into eight 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

Now, using the templates provided, cut four trapezoids from the Color 1  8" x 9" strip,  two longer shapes from the Color 2  7" x 11"strip, and  right triangles from the Color 3  5" x 10" strip, paying attention to the grain line in all cases...

To make the flying geese units, place a Color 2 small square right sides together atop the left end of a Color 3 rectangle, with edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the center. Repeat this with another Color 2 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four Flying Geese units like this, and four more using Color 1 squares...now  ...on to Page 2!
