** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 20" strip into four 3-1/2" x 5" rectangles...

 

Next mark and cut the Color 2  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Now mark and cut the Color 2  2" x 20" strip into four 2" x 5" rectangles...

 

Then mark and cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Sew a Color 2  2" x 3-1/2" rectangle to the right side of a Color 3 square, right sides together, using a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the side strip. Sew a Color 2  2 " x 5" strip to the bottom of this unit, pressing the seam allowance towards the bottom strip. Make two units like this...

 

 

Now sew a Color 2  2" x 3-1/2" rectangle to the left side of a Color 3 square, right sides together, using a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the side strip. Sew a Color 2  2 " x 5" strip to the bottom of this unit, pressing the seam allowance towards the bottom strip. Make two units like this...on to Page 2!
