** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 3  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2"...
Next sew together two Color 1 and one Color 3  1-1/2" x 27" strips along the long edges as shown at left, in a 1/4" seam Press seams to darker sides. Cut this into eighteen 1-1/2" wide sections...

Then sew two Color 3 and one Color 1  1-1/2" x 27-1/2" strips along the long edges as shown at left, in a 1/4" seam Press seams towards darker center strip. Cut this into four 3-1/2" wide sections and nine 1-1/2" wide sections...
Now sew the smaller units we just made into nine Nine Patch units as shown at left, again using 1/4" seams...
Now piece the block's center by sewing together five of the Nine Patch units and the four 3-1/2" striped units...
