** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you twelve half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

In the same manner as above, stack the Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" squares. Draw in the diagonal on the back of the top square and sew 1/4" on each side of that line. Cut apart on the marked line to get two half squares. Press to the dark side. These should measure 4-1/2"...

Using the small half squares and Color 2 squares make two of each of the units shown at left...

Sew two corner units using the half square/square pairs...
