** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1 5" x 27" strip into twelve 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"  B rectangles...

Next cut the Color 2  5" x 17-1/2" strip into fourteen 2-1/2" A squares. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four B rectangles. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2 x 6-1/2" C rectangles...

To make the block's center unit, place a Color 2 small square right sides together atop the Color 1 6-1/2" square, with outside edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the center. Repeat this with Color 2 squares on the other corners of the square. Trim to measure 6-1/2" if needed...

Now make two of the units shown at left...

Sew the two units we just made to the sides of the center unit. Now sew the two top rows and two bottom rows shown at left. Add these to the middle rows to complete the block!
