The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Plaid Paws Block! You will need to print out two copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat Quarters will be ample!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1 and Color 2  7-1/4"squares in half along both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles of each. You only need two of each for one block, so save the other two for another time or another project...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  3-7/8" squares, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the diagonal, shown as a straight line at far left. Now sew 1/4" on each side of the marked line (dotted lines, far left). Now cut apart on the marked diagonal. This will give you two half squares. Press seam allowance to the darker side. These should measure 3-1/2". Repeat this with the other Color 3   3-7/8"square and the Color 2  3-7/8"square...

Sew pairs of Color 1 and Color 2 quarter square triangles together as shown at left, using a 1/4" seam and pressing seams to darker sides...

Join the pairs as shown at left. Square this is to measure 6-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2!
