This makes an 8-1/2" wide by 9" tall block, and is paper pieced!

Fat Quarters are fine for this!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try the Pine Tree! You will need to print out one copy of each of the tree units on very lightweight paper....and use the template provided for the upper corner units, cutting one of those in reverse, per block you want to make.

After you have pieced all your tree units, join them, using as always a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press all seam allowances downward, towards the bottom of the tree...

Next, sew on the top background units as shown at left, pressing these seam allowances towards the background units...

Lastly, add on the paper pieced trunk unit, and that's one completed block!  ...on to Page 2!
