This makes a 12" block, it's easy! and it's very versatile!!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

 

 

Sew the Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" x 8-1/2" strips right sides together along one long edge, using a 1/4" seam Press seam to darker side. Make four units like this...

 

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square line. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2" ...

 

Sew the half squares to a strip set as shown top and bottom left. Sew the remaining two strip sets to the side's of the block's center 8-1/2" square. Sew on the top and bottom strips, and the block is done!...now on to Page 2!
