Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting one
Color 3 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares, then cut them on the
diagonal... |
Next cut your 3 3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares... |
Now stack your Color 1
3-7/8" square atop your Color 3 3-7/8" square, edges aligned and right sides
together. Mark the diagonal as shown. Sew 1/4" away from each side of the marked
diagonal, then cut apart on the marked diagonal. This will give you two half
squares. Press to dark side and trim to measure 3-1/2" if
needed... |
Then cut your Color 1
6-7/8" square on the diagonal, being careful not to stretch the fabric... |
Lastly, stack your
Color 2 and the other Color 3 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip, right sides together with
edges aligned. Mark the 3-7/8" square line and the diagonal lines. Sew 1/4"
above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart ON the marked diagonal, and cut apart on the 3-7/8"
square line. This will give you four half squares. Press to dark side
and trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed... |
We'll start by piecing
the blue corners. Sew a Color 3 triangle to the side of the Color 1 and Color 3 half
square, using a 1/4" seam, then add another to the adjacent side. Press seams
towards half square. Make two of these units... |
Sew each of them to a Color 1 large triangle. Press seam towards Color 1
large triangle...on
