** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by stacking and cutting the Color 2 and Color 3  6-1/4" squares in half twice on the diagonals to make four quarter square triangles of each.  Sew opposite colored triangles together in pairs using a 1/4" seam. Press to the dark side. Now sew pairs together to form an hourglass block. Make two units like this. Trim to measure 5-1/2" if needed...

 

Now sew two Color 3  2" x 8" strips to a Color 1  2-1/2" x 8" strip. Press seams to darker side. Cut this into four 2" sections. Then sew two Color 1  2" x 5" strips to one Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strip, again pressing to darker sides. Cut this into two 2-1/2" sections...

 

Sew the units we just made together to make two nine patch units as shown at left...on to Page 2!
