Sew a short pieced unit to one side of a Color 1  3-7/8" half square triangle. Press seam towards larger triangle. Sew a long pieced unit to the top of this, again pressing seam to inside. Make four units like this...

Now make the blocks center Nine Patch by laying out the Color 2 squares and Color 1 rectangles as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom row seams to the outside, and the middle row seam to the center. Join the three rows...

Sew on opposing corner triangle units, pressing seams to outside. Sew on last two triangle units, also pressing seams to outside...and this block is complete!

Here are four blocks by five with simple straight sashings and border!
