This makes an 8" block and is a combination of paper piecing and regular piecing!

This is an original pattern. Please abide by the Terms and Conditions of use! :o)

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Navy Squares block! You will need to print out one copy of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by sewing the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strips right sides together along one long edge in a 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Cut this apart at 2-1/2" intervals to make four units...

Sew the units together to make two four patch units as shown at left...

Now paper piece the triangle units and sew them together to make two square units. Lay out those and the four patch units as shown at left. Sew the units together and your Navy Squares block is complete!... on to Page 2!
