This makes an 8" block and is part paper piecing!

Click on the image at left for Paper Piecing Templates! The smaller unit is 1" x 2" plus the 1/4" seam allowance. The rectangle, is 2" x 4" plus the 1/4" seam allowances. If you need help with Paper Piecing, try the Practice Paper Piecing Page!

 

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, using the templates provided, paper piece the four rectangle units, two in Color 4 and Color 1, and two in Color 4 and Color 2.  Piece one of the smaller units in Color 4, and Color 3.

 

 

Now cut the Color 4  2-1/2" x 7-1/2" strip into three 2-1/2" squares...

Sew the pieced smaller unit to the 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" Color 4 strip, using the standard 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the Color 4 strip... 

 

 

 

Now piece the block, by making rows as shown at left, alternating seam pressing directions with each addition. Sew the rows together to make the block, again alternating pressing directions....All done!!
