** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by stacking the Color # 3 + 5  4-7/8" squares right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly draw in the diagonal, then sew a scant 1/4" away on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line. This will give you two half squares. Press to the dark side and trim to measure 4-1/2" if needed. you only need ONE half square per block so save the extra for another block, or another project...

Now lay out all the shapes as shown at left. Sew together the Color 4 and Color 2  2-1/2" squares/ Press to dark side. Sew this to the bottom of the half square. Add the Color 1 rectangle to the left hand side...and it's done! What could be easier??!

This is where the Liberating comes in...FOR THE QUILT, shown on the next page, I assigned POSITION LETTERS, as shown at left. Starting with the top row left on the quilt I made the block as shown at the top of this page, but for the next one over...I started Mixing and Jumbling...Position A's color went to position B...B to C, C to D,  D to F, and E to A. Then the next block to the right switched again...moving what had been position A's color in block TWO, to ->position B, B to C to D to E to A...and so I went throughout the quilt! You can mix it up even more by sometimes having the rectangle on the right or left or bottom, or having the half square on top and the small squares on bottom! It's meant to be Hodge-Podge ...so... Liberate! :o)   ..now on to Page 2!
