** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 20 " strip into eight 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 15" strip into six 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 3  5" x 9" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Using two Color 2 and two Color 3  2-1/2" squares, sew the four patch unit shown at left. Use all 1/4" seams and press the seams to the darker side. This unit should measure 4-1/2"...

Now, to make one flying geese unit, place a Color 1 small square right sides together atopone end of a Color 3 rectangle, with outer edges aligned.( I show them staggered here just so you can see what pieces I mean. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the center. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make a total of four geese in the same manner. They should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"...
