** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
|
|
Start by stacking the Color 1 and Color 5
3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips right sides together and all edges
aligned. Cut these at the 3-7/8" mark to make two 3-7/8"
squares of each color. Keeping them in pairs with the edges aligned,
on the back of the top strip lightly draw in the diagonal, then sew
a scant 1/4" away on each side of that drawn line. Cut apart ON
the drawn line to make two half square units. Press seam to darker
side. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Make four units like
this... |
|
|
Next sew the Color 2, 3 and 4 1-1/2"
x 14" strips together along one long edge as shown at left,
using a scant 1/4" seam. (now and throughout the block making)
Press seams towards the darker strip. Cut this apart at 3-1/2"
intervals to make four 3-1/2" pieced units... |
|
|
Lay out all units as shown at left with the Color
5 3-1/2" square as the center. Sew three horizontal rows.
Press the top and bottom rows towards the center and the middle row
to the outside. Join the rows and your block is done!
