** Preparing and Sewing the Pieces **

Start by sewing your Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 20" strips together along one long side, right sides together, and using a scant  1/4" seam. Press seam allowances towards darker fabric. Then mark and cut these strips as shown at 2-1/2" intervals...

Now we will speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strips, right sides together. Mark the 4-7/8" square line. Mark the diagonals in the direction shown as well. Starting at the upper left corner, Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart ON the diagonal line, and on the square line also. This will give you four half squares. Press seams to darker side. Trim to measure 4-1/2" if needed...

Next, with two pieced strip units, pivot one, and sew, right sides together. Make four of these units...on to Page 2!
