** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Next mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Now let's speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips right sides together...and the Color  2 and Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, also right sides together. On the backs of the top strips, lightly mark the 2- 7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals as shown. Sew in a continuous seam 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines, and on the marked diagonal lines. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. This will give you four of the first Color combo, and eight of the second. These should measure 2-1/2" ...

Then sew a Color 2/Color 3 half square to a Color 3 square, using the ever present 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the half square. Make four of these units...

Next sew a Color1/Color3 half square to a Color2/Color3 half square. Press seam towards the Color 2/Color3 half square. Make four of these units...

Sew the two previous units together to make the corner squares of the block. Make four of these units...on to Page 2!
