This makes a 10-1/2" FINISHED block!

A quilt for those times when you want to use a bit of your focus fabric on the bed...but not necessarily a TON of it...Say the focus here is the floral...

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  6" x 8" rectangle into twelve 2" squares. Now cut the Color 3  8" x 8" square in to sixteen 2" squares...

Next cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Cut the Color 3  4" x 9-1/2" strip into two 2" x 9-1/2" rectangles

Place a Color 1 square right sides together and outer edges lined up with each end of a Color 3 rectangle. On the back of the squares draw a diagonal line in the directions shown at left. Stitch ON this drawn line. Trim off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the triangles. Repeat this with the other Color 3 rectangle...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-3/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-3/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2" if needed...on to Page 2!
